Are you and your family expendable?

Sadly it seems that depends on where you live.

As this story on Perthnow shows the EPA and Environment Minister Templeman recently approved the expansion of the Kalgoorlie Super Pit to within 200 metres of residents.

Like Kwinana Industry this Kalgoorlie industry has for many years been in breach of the noise limits and has not been held to account by the authorities for either noise or particulate pollution. As can be seen by this story on Perthnow, the effected community are largely Aboriginal.

Can you imagine what it would be like living 200 metres from this (ABC story)?

While acknowledging some of the risk such as Fine Particulates and Noise Mr. Templeman said “I realise the superpit is a bone of contention for some people in Kalgoorlie but it is also an extremely lucrative and iconic operation with huge benefits to the local and national economy, and the tourism industry”.

What our government may have well have said is ‘If an industrial operation is lucrative for the Government, you are your families do not matter –You Are Expendable for the benefit of the rest of the state’.

The health, safety, well being and amenity of these people is considered expendable by our state government.

Whatever happened to Environmental Justice? It simply does not exist in Western Australia.
.
"The fight for justice against corruption is never easy. It never has been and never will be. It exacts a toll on our self, our families, our friends, and especially our children. In the end, I believe, as in my case, the price we pay is well worth holding on to our dignity". - Frank Serpico

Sadly our environmental minister, doesn't seem concerned about the health of the people,re pollution or the environment in WA.
With a section 17 noise exemption, how do the people living in the vicinity of the super pit have quality of life?

I'm not actually sure what sort of government rules our state! It is obvious that human rights are totally insignificant. We have no health rights, no enviro rights and certainly no property rights. Our justice system is failing, our hospitals are failing, teachers, police and nurses are completely under valued, bureaucracy dictates the terms, industry dictates to bureaucracy, and untrained ministers are making decisions upon the ill informed advise of policy advisors who are often party hacks. What do we do? We cannot give up I know that, but how do we combat the complete disregard for the average man, his basic rights and our planet? Apparently "the all important boom" precides and yet I don't know of many who are actually benefiting from it. $$$$$'s are the God unfortunately. This is the legacy this government wishes to leave behind! Their blatant disregard for all of the above and more will see the future doomed for us all. Don't they realise that their own offspring will also be damaged! Ultimately, money is worth nothing, if there is no planet to salvage. The major purpose of all governments, local, state and federal must be to save our planet. Stop, look and listen you idiots who purport to represent the general populace. The message is loud and clear, stop allowing and supporting the destruction of our planet, stop eroding human rights and start taking seriously the voice of the people. We want to leave the planet in a safe and healthy state for our children. Lead the way and stop being led by the propaganda machine that is industry.Listen to your people before it is too late and take action with good ethic, strong integrity and true honesty. You and yours will suffer just like the rest of us if you continue down the path you now choose.
