BHP Nickelwest had a leak from its effluent line between its Nickel Refinery and Baldivis tailings ponds that has contaminated ground water and killed at least 14 native trees in what is believed to be a A' class nature reserve.
The effluent is meant to be only storm water so how can storm water kill huge trees unless it is contaminated with something more sinister?
BHP told the community industries forum last month that they had had a leakbut downplayed the incident and did not state the facts on how bad the damage was.
