BHP Pollution Kills at least 14 Trees

BHP Nickelwest had a leak from its effluent line between its Nickel Refinery and Baldivis tailings ponds that has contaminated ground water and killed at least 14 native trees in what is believed to be a A' class nature reserve.

The effluent is meant to be only storm water so how can storm water kill huge trees unless it is contaminated with something more sinister?

BHP told the community industries forum last month that they had had a leakbut downplayed the incident and did not state the facts on how bad the damage was.

Another example of open and honest consultation with the community by Kwinana industry?

They have been polluting Kwinana/Rockingham areas and residents for to long. There has to be something pretty potent in the water to kill the trees.Just what is being permitted to seep into our ground water?
Why won't the DEC start doing their job, they are pathetic when it comes to Nickel West monitoring for nickel, so I suppose we won't hear of whats gone into our water either.
