I must be lucky to live next to Kwinana Industry

Because the Kwinana Mayor tells me so...
"Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams said she cannot stress enough how lucky the Kwinana Community was to be in close proximity to the most important industrial area in Western Australia"
Kwinana Industries Council Advertisment in Sound Telegraph 17-03-2010

Oh but wait; what Mayor Adams fails to tell this community is that her husband is Chris Oughton who is Director of KIC (the chief spin doctor of Kwinana Industry) who is also quoted in this advertisement.

Therefore Kwinana Mayor I don't think you have the right to tell me how good living with all that industrial pollution is for me
.

Whatever happened to reporting conflict of interest in our media?

We'd be lucky if this industry was not self regulated, if our government (all tiers, so this actually does involve our Mayor!)was serious in moderating industrial activity and the waste produced. We'd feel much luckier if our Mayor was not economically bias, and included protecting our health and our environment on her "lucky us" agenda. And it would be helpful if her business relationships were separate from her personal relationships. We'd feel luckier then too.

Thank you for your comment M and B and well said. Good to see that not all of us in this community are as stupid and gullible as some think we are.

We live in Kwinana knowing the industrial area is on our doorsteps. We choose to be here regardless of that fact. Whether it is damaging to our health is irrelevant. If you personally feel it is unhealthy then maybe the Kwinana area isn't the place for you to live. There are plenty of other areas within our state you could choose that would suit you better.

Hhhmmm What a very strange comment: "Whether it is damaging to our health is irrelevant"

Just because we live in Kwinana by choice or for any other reason, does not mean we do not deserve the right to be kept as safe and as healthy as any one else in the state.

We have environmental laws and government departments, local councils to enforce those laws to keep us safe.

Industry has a responsibilty not to damage anyone's health.

Carol said i`m lucky
it must be true I think
industry isn`t mucky
and the air here doesn`t stink

The pollution isn`t harmfull
it wouldn`t hurt a fly
those clouds are just a bit of wool
a floating in the sky

The noise i here is in my mind
the modelling say`s it`s so
and KIC is just so kind
in handing out the dough

we have no need to monitor
for it passes overhead
nothing in the air no more
the regulator said

oh yes i do believe the spin
i hear it all the while
what they tell me is no sin
cos they always smile

they use the graph and table
to show me that it`s good
I`m just too silly and unable
to think-- as if i could

Oh lucky lucky lucky me
i believe you yes i do
no harm can come from industry
and pigs can fly-- yes it`s true
